Clement Browne

More and more we are being drawn to shutters over curtains and blinds. And when they look like this you can understand why.

clement brown, shutters

Beautifully designed, the flexible Full Height shutter style offers escape from the sunlight, not that that’s really a problem here in London, but also a focal point for the room.

clement browne

Create a delicate and airy interior by colour-matching your shutters to the walls, effortlessly integrating the shutter into your decor. Or, alternatively, make a focal point out of the shutter; paint it in a bold hue to break up a neutral wall colour and add a pop of colour to quickly refresh your interior space.

clement browne

With its own production line, Clement Browne offers a higher standard of paint, better manufacturing care and higher quality finishes and materials. Prices start from just £250 per square metre for the Westcliff Collection’s hardwood Paulownia shutters.

Ippari console, two base units, a side unit and 2 worktops £2,038.80, Isorno vessel basin £252, Valsura tall basin mixer £489, Magra mirror from £295

We love this off-centred and almost sculpted architectural piece- although not quite sure it would fit into our mini (read absolutely tiny bathroom.)

Utility Design Inspiration

We are in love with Utility Design. With 3 stores in Liverpool and one in King’s Cross, London, the online offering has some great brands and some equally great deals. Here we have picked some of their fab sale offers.

bertoia, utlity design

It may still be £907 (gag) but this Knoll Berotia side chair has 15% off and that makes it slightly less appalling. But what a glorious piece of furniture it is. Where’s that chair fund got to?

osjo, light

These Osjo Vinge lamps are down to £462.40 which again is a little much to stomach- but so sweet!

artemide, light

Now this Artemide Dalu lamp is fun, colourful and affordable and down to £61.20- yes please!

kartell

A great tip is to head to the outlet area of the site where the deals are even better. This Kartell Ghost stool has 26% off taking it down to a very reasonable £75.

kartell

This gorgeous Kartell Componobiliis is only £72 down from £100- yahooo!

Kirath Ghundoo

Wallpaper wasn’t so fashionable, then it was…..then paint was huge but only with grey undertones…..then Victoriana wallpaper with a big emphasis on William Morris and flowers arrived…..and then, thank God, brands like All the Fruits and Kirath Ghundoo finally came to the fore.

kirath ghundoo, wallpaper

JAZZ TARTAN – KG Basics 2016

Here are just a few shots from Ghundoo’s 2016 range. The pastel colours work and the dramatic geometric shapes, make for a paper that could work in nearly any environment.

kirath ghundoo, wallpaper

MOUNTAIN BLUE – KG Basics 2016

The shade of this blue and the simple repeated pattern make the above a tranquil offering that would work well in a home office space. The range also comes in green.

kirath ghundoo, wallpaper

THE HAMPTON – KG Basics 2016

Called Hampton for a clear reason, anyone who takes this wallpaper on, needs to be very sure of their interior style- and that there isn’t a history of migraines in the family. We love it at Despoke, but could only use this if we had a very large room dedicated to sailing. And we don’t.

kirath ghundoo, wallpaper

SPARKLE – KG Basics 2016

We can only assume this one is called Sparkle because it really does. All of these retail at £95 for a 10m role which is just brilliantly affordable- they only need to be used on one feature wall.

kirath ghundoo, wallpaper

Tropic – Mix ‘n’ Match 15 Collection

Even though this is one season old- it’s perhaps our favourite Ghundoo design. Perfectly mismatched meaning you could put it up yourself and not worry about matching patterns, we remember seeing this at 100% design a few years ago and feeling instantly lifted. if it’s good enough for Susie Bubble…..

Maison et Objet

On January 22 until the 26th, one of Europe’s key interior trend shows opens its doors. Maison et Object features objects across a number of halls in Paris- bathrooms, office, home, lighting and more are all catered for and the show is a good indicator of what’s to come in the year ahead. See some top picks below.

spoons, plates, painted

Baan

Baan has painted plates, spoons and other decorative goods- all made from natural materials. We like the neon yellow edging shown above.

green, leather, sofa

Pols Potten

Although we aren’t mad keen on sitting on leather (it doesn’t scream relaxing we don’t think) we are very keen on this gorgeous green sofa by Dutch studio Pols Potten. Please remove the pineapple before we sit down though Pols.

lights. ebb and flow

Glow in a Dome and Speak Up! Ebb and Flow

We rather like this Victoriana, terrarium-inspired light range from Ebb and Flow. We love their other pieces and this would certainly bring a bit of fun to any interior.

Bloom chair

Kenneth Cobonpue, Bloom

There’s something very appealing about this chair by Kenneth Cobonpue. Not least that anyone who sits in it will probably look a bit of a lemon. But also because it looks very inviting.

Mullan Lighting

Mullan Lighting

Old favourites Mullan Lighting also make an appearance with their Sergeant Pepper Table Lamp above. Inspired by the psychedelic 60’s the red cord gives an added twist.

The Raj Tent Club

As well as being the place to hire and buy extravagant Indian and Raj-style tents (you know you need one…..) The Raj Tent Club also has some incredible British Empire and Raj inspired products. We have picked some of our faves below.

raj tent club, elephant doorhandles

Elephant door handles anyone?? Errrrr yes please! Made in India they are made from brass with black coating. £60 for the pair can’t be bad!

raj tent club, west indian canopy

We are also in love with this naive hand embroidered cotton folk art canopy from West India which can additionally be used as a colourful throw. We think would be a perfect gift for a new baby. Only £75 too!

the-raj-tent-club-shop-product_image-1412950563922576239

The wesbite and shop also have some great bits of original furniture like this Palm Springs Aqua Metal Chair designed by Lisa Vandy. A modern take on the traditional.

Seeing as how obsessed we are with cushions of all types, we thought these beautiful cotton cushions, made in Kishangar, Rajasthan would be a perfect present for ourselves……or as a great new home gift for someone else.

Assemble- Turner Prize Winners

The creative collective that is Assemble will make an appearance at Top Drawer this January. Featuring in the show’s new new talent hub ‘Spotted’, they will be showcasing products from the Granby Workshop.

assemble, granby workshop

The workshop is a new social enterprise making handmade products for homes. Set up by Assemble and launched through their nomination for the Turner Prize 2015, all products – including door knobs, mantelpieces, furniture, fabric and tiles – are manufactured using processes which embrace chance, so that each is unique, developing in the hands of the people making it.

Fabric_Chair_1024x1024

We are particularly fond of these sawdust ceramic handles. Individually wrapped in tin foil, burnished clay knobs are buried in a bbq filled with sawdust, set alight and smoked for 12 hours.

Assemble_Liverpool_0639_1024x1024

Assemble champion a collaborative working practice that blurs the line between client, designer, builder and public. Their involvement in projects covers a broad range of disciplines and interests – underpinned by the belief that a more diverse approach leads to richer results. This year they became the first design practice ever to win the Turner Prize in the UK.

Fabrics and Wallpaper for 2016

2015 was definitely the year for stunning wallpaper with Cole & Son, All the Fruits, House of Hackney and more getting in on the action. Wallpaper rolls were adorned with mis-matched patterns as well as different colours. Below we have picked a few fabrics and wallpapers that have caught our eye, going into the next season. Both brands have been inspired by places in their designs- geographical creativity!

Olily, dutch, wallpaper, behang

Behang Adults by Oilily

This subtle patterned wallpaper by Dutch fashion house Oilily is inspired by four Dutch places.  Four typical villages inspired Oilily’s product designers Roland and Johanneke. Each of these locations had its own characteristic shapes and colour schemes, which in turn created lovely contrasts in the wallpaper designs.

Behang young adult, Oliliy

Behang young adult

Oilily have also made a range for young adults that would sit happily in any teenagers- or grown ups- room. The two luxury wallpaper collections were created with hand painted, drawn or sketched prints. This means striped patterns are not composed of meticulously straight lines and polka dots are not perfectly round, creating a traditional and completely one off feel.

Indian summer, art of the loom

Art of the Loom’s latest collection entitled ‘Indian Summer’

Art of the Loom’s new Spring collection is inspired by India. A collection of contrasts, it sees the vibrancy and the frenetic energy of the country, hinting at influence from embroidered saris, flowers for the temple, painted trucks and decorated camels. Art of the Loom’s designs are brought to life in rich, vivid tones and stunning textures, perfect for the Spring/Summer season.

Art of the Loom

Art of the Loom- Agate

The fabric, although inspired by a country renowned for it’s vibrant colours, could easily be introduced into a neutral colour scheme. We can see the above Agate on long drop curtains. And we want.

Please Wait to be Seated

We have just discovered Please Wait to be Seated and are excited. They are agents/distributors of dedicated brands, artists, designers and manufacturers. One quality they all have in common is that they know their trade with regard to craftsmanship, skills, quality of materials and sustainability in terms of durable design.

Planet lamp DESIGNED BY METTE SCHELDE

Planet lamp DESIGNED BY METTE SCHELDE

Some of the pieces like this Planet Lamp have been designed exclusively for the website.

Transcience mirrors

Transcience mirrors

These transcience mirrors are stunning.  Over time dark spots start to appear on mirrors. The silver layer is slowly oxidizing under the influence of oxygen and water, thereby showing some of its history. This process can be regarded as degradation, however this project shows the beauty of this material transition of silver.

medici

DESIGNED BY KONSTANTINE GRCIC

Konstantin Grcic designed this chair for Mattiazzi. Medici is a low chair with a comfortably reclined posture. It is generous dimensions give it an embracing confidence.

Hend Krichen

Hend Krichen is a London-based designer whose practice manufactures and retails handmade luxury home-wares and accessories. We have had our eye on here for a while. We have seen her at 100% Design, CDW and more.

hend krichen

The main focus within the practice is producing beautiful timeless objects designed to enrich everyday lives through the use of the rich artisanal skills and craftsmanship. The teracotta and the copper colours work together beautifully in the above vases.

hend krichen

These coasters would brighten up any table.  They have been designed to enrich everyday lives and utilise the rich artisanal skills and craftsmanship in Tunisia. Patterns dating back to 1700’s when the concept of the tile designs were first introduced in North Africa, bringing history into your home.

hend krichen

This copper wall hanging plate would look perfect all year round, but has a certain Christmas feel to it. Intricate patterns taken from various dates in history in Tunisia and applied onto the surface by hand make this a timeless object.

C.P. Hart new showroom

When we think of bathroom showrooms, we think of tiles, white, toilets (ahem), showers…..water. Not so for the new C.P. Hart showroom in Waterloo.

cp hart

They have worked with architecture practice Morrow + Lorraine, design studio Badrock Design and C.P. Hart’s internal merchandising and showroom design teams to create a showroom that could just as easily be a high end hotel reception.

cp hart, bathrooms

Specialist lighting design practice Studio Fractal was also brought in to design two bespoke lighting installations – located in the reception area and C.P. Hart café.

cp hart

The new showroom space covers 20,000 sq ft and is a series of interlocking exposed brickwork arches. C.P. Hart were keen to convey the heritage of the building so Morrow + Lorraine utilised the original brickwork against copper panel work on the arches.

cp hart

The cafe and the various interlocking arches allow firms to being clients along to relax and be inspired.  The new product gallery allows C.P. Hart to be flexible about how they display products and get new products on show much quicker as soon as they are launched at international trade fairs. The products are presented on flexible mobile plinths based on a modular system that can changed and moved around. Other products are fixed onto the wall and plumbed for testing.

Pinch- Christmas stock

We are mad fans of Pinch Design here at Despoke and are always keeping an eye out for their beautifully crafted pieces. It’s worth remembering that although they make a lot of pieces to order, they also hold a lot of stock- all available to get delivered before Christmas. Here are a few of our top picks.

Every time we see this dressing table we feel like a real grown up with proper make up and jewellery that needs safely housing. That’s not the case sadly, but we can always dream.
