Floors of Stone handmade tiles

We love a good stone floor or wall, but it’s not often we can find something that is unique,  handmade and well, beautiful. However, Floors of Stone and Hannah Livesley have launched their collection of handmade ceramic tiles and they really are rather stunning.

Plain English

Creative director and founder of brand Plain English, has re-designed their Blandford Street showroom. Inspired by the gentility and practicality of Edwardian design and engineering, the showroom has a pleasingly simple and easy air.

plain english

Bespoke designs have been made to adapt to the users lifestyle with large break out areas as well as unique cabinetry that can be adapted and accommodated into any of the designs. Open shelving features, a design that was popular in Edwardian times and is popular once again.

The showroom is a large, light-filled, open space and works well for exhibitions, most recently housing Karen Downing’s vases and ceramics.

The porcelain vases, bowls and pots, although beautiful are hardy can be used in the kitchen with ease. They possess a tactile quality that encourages you to use them without worrying about them being damaged.

Clerkenwell Design Week- top picks

Spring is edging in and that can only mean one thing for us at Despoke- CDW is back and this time it’s slightly different. We’ve picked some of our top brands appearing across the exhibitions (there’s showrooms, fringe and installations to go yet.) Take a deep breath……

tacchini

The Farmiloe Building is no more and that means a farewell to the Design Factory. But in it’s place is the gloriously named Design Fields, filled with the world’s most stunning design pieces, like these Kelly chairs from Tacchini, above.

archie proudfoot

If it’s new designers and brands who have just started out, then head below ground level to Platform, where pieces like the above from Archie Proudfoot will be brightening up the cells of Clerkenwell’s House of Detention.

taz pollard

Succulents are a fave of ours and designers like, Taz Pollard have vessels for them and more at the home of smaller design pieces and trinkets:  Additions in the gardens of St James’.

andrew dominic

Another new space this year is Project– popping up alongside Additions, it’s another great space for leading furniture brands to showcase their newest pieces in the greenery of St James’ Park. This gorgeous side unit by Andrew Dominic, is part of a fully hand-crafted new range.

jennifer newman

Jennifer Newman is a stalwart of CDW, having been with the show since its launch in 2010.  She’s back with her newest range for 2016, in British Collection (which used to be Additions- keep up!) making the St. James’ Church area a real hub.

ptolemy mann

Potlemy Mann returns, but this time with her own range of rugs (a few years ago she was at CDW with an incredible tile installation.) She’ll be in Detail at the centuries old Order of St John, alongside numerous other brands ready to inspire you.

Iittala x Issey Miyake

What do you get when you combine a ground breaking fashion designer with an iconic homewares brand? This lovely lot!

iittala and isey miyake

Combining Scandinavian and Japanese craftsmanship and design, Iittala X Issey Miyake brings a unique collaborative collection of  ceramics, glass and home textiles in gorgeous pastel shades and usable sizes.

iittala and isey miyake

It’s the palette we are most excited about as well as the materials. They seem so luxurious and on point, but aren’t hugely expensive. Skandium are stocking them in the UK.

iittala and miyake

The collection consists of 30 items. The play of textiles and pentagon forms of the glass and ceramic objects is an invitation to touch and feel the material, while the colour scheme is inspired by the awakening of spring and the blossoming of flowers. The textile products are created based on Issey Miyake’s original folding and pleating techniques that have been used in its clothes making since late 1980s.

Tania Johnson Rugs

We are loving Tania Johnson’s made to order range of rugs-  complex designs are and knotted in Nepal by highly skilled artisans using wool, silk, or a combination of both; silk reflects the light, creating highlights which alter the intensity of the design depending on the direction of the light source.

tania johnson

The rug above when seen in full, looks like rain trickling down a window pane. It makes sense then, to discover that all of Tania Johnson’s designs are based on her own photography.

tania johnson

In Tania’s long established relationship with her team at the Nepalese workshop, she is heavily involved in the dyeing process; the colour palette is created uniquely for her rugs. The subtlety of the original image is then transposed by master weavers in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Form Us With Love- We love!

We first really started realising how important Form Us With Love  with were when they paired with SBSeating to do the amazing Noor chairs. We were a bit late to the game as they have been around for 10 years…..

form us with love

They founded BAUX, another part of their company, in 2014 – some of the most beautiful acoustic paneling we have ever seen- NOT a sentence we thought we would ever say. They are stunning pieces of design that could be a work of art in their own right.

the2

The above Noor chairs were part of a range produced for SBSeating. They come in a range of strong and natural shades that would complement any interior.

form us with love

Form Us With Love are mainstream too. They were approached by IKEA to create a durable and affordable multi-purpose chair—easy to fall in love with and quick to maintain—and we love the Janinge solution they came up with! Stackable, cheap and good looking- what’s not to like?

form us with love

They have also collaborated with HEM with a wide range of furniture, lighting and accessories. We particularly like this Levels lamp above.

Wendy Morrison Rugs

New for Spring/Summer 2016 and continuing her exploration of nature, rug designer Wendy Morrison has created her new Orient collection with gorgeous rich colours and Art Deco inspired design. All the rugs are hand tufted wool with viscose highlights to create a shimmer which bring the design to life.

wendy morrison, rugs

We love the peacock tree above. Stunning colours and beautiful craftsmanship create something you would probably not ever want to tread on!

mount orient, wendy morrison

This gorgeous cut out from a rug named Mount Orient is a rich and textured piece, with vibrant colours and again the bird motif.

wendy morrison, rug

The above rug looks stunning in this white and neutral room and creates a wonderful centrepiece, bring the splashes of colour in the rest of the room to life. All rugs start at £990.

French bedroom art….

Slightly off piste here, bear with us. French bedrooms might conjure up images of dangerous liaisons and all sorts of European antics, but when paired with design, this ideology can actually lead to some pretty fun interiors.

Defaced Duchess

This is amazing. Imagine it above your bath- if you had a massive roll top bath that is. Not so impressive if a tiny bath under a shower.

Ludwig vamp Beethoven

He was known to be a bit wild with some mental symphonies, but here he is as good old Elton John…..

Girl with a pearl bubble

One of Vermeer’s most intriguing paintings turned into pop art with a piece of gum.

There are a number of fun pieces of wall art that would liven up any wall, as well as some great offers on beds, interior products and acessories. Some of them are a little OTT if you know what we mean, but hey- there channelling their inner Sun King- what do you expect!
