Portfolio Alert: Calico Wallpaper

American husband-and-wife team Nick and Rachel Cope founded Calico Wallpaper in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy when they suddenly found themselves unemployed.

The duo spent their free time wisely researching the process of marbling, creating hundreds of samples before perfecting the technique for wallpaper.

“Our method embodies years of research in the various disciplines in paper marbling, which have spanned the globe. The arts of Suminagashi and Ebru, emanating from Japan and Turkey centuries ago are both evident in our inaugural collection. However, it is our expansion of these practices that makes Calico Wallpapers truly unique,” said Nick.

The collection quickly expanded from the first range to include a wide range of marbled designs alongside the new gradated backdrops available in a range of sixteen colourways.

Each design is printed on oversized paper without a formal repeat.

Referencing horizons at dawn and the natural phenomena of light, their new Aurora papers are designed to immerse a room in subtle waves and washes of colour.
